Coronavirus Scotland: Glasgow Caledonian University hub to be turned into walk-through test centre

A Glasgow Caledonian University hub is to be turned into a walk-through coronavirus test centre, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

The university's ARC facility is set to be the second of 22 such centres across Scotland.

Announcing the move last night, the Scottish Government Tweeted: "Work has begun on a walk-through #coronavirus testing centre at the ARC, Glasgow Caledonian University. It’s the second of 22 planned walk-through centres across Scotland, helping to make testing more accessible to everyone".

The news comes after a further 70 cases of coronavirus were recorded across the country.

However, during yesterday's Scottish Government briefing, Nicola Sturgeon said she believes these figures are incomplete and warned of a 'testing backlog' after confirming coronavirus cases had trebled over the past three weeks.

Nicola Sturgeon says she has raised her fears with the UK Government, urging UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock to share the "full scale and nature of issues they are facing".

The First Minister commented: "I have a very serious concern that the backlog of test results being faced by the UK laboratory network is starting to impact on the timeous reporting of Scottish results."
