Coronavirus Scotland: Death toll rises as 885 new cases confirmed

A further 885 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Scotland with the disease claiming another 31 lives.

The country's covid death toll now stands at 6,916, according to new figures published this afternoon by the Scottish Government.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 9,053 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, February 14 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

No new deaths have been reported in Ayrshire and Arran in the last 24 hours, but the number of positive cases in region has risen by 82 to 14,925.

There are currently 141 Covid patients in hospitals within the NHS Ayrshire and Arran health board region – down one on the previous day's number.

A total of 13 patients are in intensive care which is an increase of one.

Nationally, 1,222 people are battling the disease in Scottish hospitals; 98 in intensive care.

A total of 1,386,152 people in Scotland have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination while 29,015 have received their second dose.
