Scottish Government Covid update: 39 further deaths as number of new daily cases falls again

Coronavirus cases in Scotland continue to plateau, with 832 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours alongside 39 further deaths.

It comes ahead of an update from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on the review of the framework her government put in place to implement localised coronavirus restrictions.

Over 75,000 cases of the virus have now been identified in Scotland since that start of the health crisis March, and the new cases today represented 9.5 per cent of the tests carried out yesterday.

114 of the cases were in the NHS Lothian region.

39 further deaths were also recorded amongst people in Scotland who tested positive for the virus in the last 28 days.

Meanwhile, 1,239 patients are being treated in NHS hospitals for the virus.

A total of 15 patients are unwell in intensive care units across the country, including in NHS Lothian hospitals.

The First Minister said yesterday that the restrictions in Scotland were unlikely to change, and that whilst cases are not increasing they are still at too high a level to be comfortable.
