Coronavirus Scotland: Council area Covid levels revealed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon

Ayrshire's council areas will be placed into Level 3 of the new coronavirus alert system launching next week.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the news in an address to the Scottish Parliament this lunchtime.

A five-tier scheme is being put in place by the Scottish Government and under the arrangements, councils are to be designated either Level 0 (least restrictive), Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 or Level 4 (close to a full lockdown).

East, North and South Ayrshire local authority regions will go into the second-highest level from Monday, November 2 at 6am.

Ms Sturgeon said the situation will be reviewed on a weekly basis while also confirming that North and South Lanarkshire had just avoided being placed into Level 4 due to recent efforts in suppressing the virus.

She also told MSPs that she could not rule out another national-style lockdown.

Level One...

Highland, Moray, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.

Level Two...

Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen, Fife, Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll and Bute, Perth and Kinross, and Angus.

Level Three...
