Coronavirus Scotland: Cops swoop on 'no more lockdown' protesters in Aberdeen

Police were called to a street in Aberdeen after a group held a protest against coronavirus lockdown.

The objectors held a banner in the city’s Castlegate emblazoned with the slogan “No More Lockdown”.

The group were issued warnings about their behaviour which broke guidelines issued as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Scotland's lockdown began on March 23, and has since resulted in pubs, restaurants and other social venues shutting across the country.

The measures, dubbed ‘the new normal’ have had a significant impact on people’s lives and daily movements.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: “Police were called around 3.05 pm on Saturday, May 2, after a small group of people gathered at the Castlegate, Aberdeen,” a spokeswoman said.

“The group was spoken to and advice given.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has praised the public’s response to lockdown branding it “absolutely superb”.

She also warned that people risked “devastating consequences” if they started to divert from the guidance.
