Coronavirus Scotland: Cases continue to climb as 1,148 new infections reported and six deaths

A further six people are confirmed to have died from coronavirus in Scotland according to the latest data.

The Scottish Government reported 1,148 new cases of the virus, taking the total number of infections in Scotland since the start of the health crisis in March to just over 65.000.

140 of the new cases were in NHS Lothian, whilst the majority (443) were identified in Glasgow.

Six further deaths announced Sunday taking the death toll amongst people who had tested positive for the virus to 2,849.

The number of deaths is down on the 24 announced on Saturday, however with registry offices typically closed at the week the number reported on a Sunday can be artificially low.

Across NHS Scotland, 1,193 people are receiving treatment for the virus in hospital, up 129 on Saturday.

Five more admissions to intensive care units takes the total number of patients who are critically unwell in hospital to 81.

The City of Edinburgh Council area has recorded 453 new cases in the seven days leading up to 29 October, meanwhile East Lothian recorded 98 and there were 330 new cases in West Lothian.
