Coronavirus Scotland: care home confirms third death this week

Another resident at an East Kilbride care home has died after displaying symptoms of Coronavirus.

It comes after two other residents at Whitehills - one who had covid-19, and the other a suspected case -  died this week.

Trade unions and care home operators have warned the Government about the tragedy that is unfolding in the facilities.

Of the 926 covid-19 related deaths that were announced this week, around one quarter were in care homes.

Whitehills, which is one of a number of homes operated by Thistle Healthcare across Scotland, has been hit badly by the deadly virus.

It was earlier confirmed that two residents had died this week, both of which were linked to Coronavirus.

A spokesperson for Thistle Healthcare confirmed a third death to the Daily Record.

Figures released by the firm showed that 127 care home staff were off work because of Coronavirus. This included 39 at Whitehills.

The figure was 17  at the Ardencraig home in Glasgow’s Castlemilk area, 26 for Lochleven in Broughty Ferry, and 16 for Morningside in Wishaw.
