Coronavirus Scotland: Ayrshire rugby club to run food and medicine errands for those quarantined at home

Irvine Rugby Club are pitching in to help society's most vulnerable people during the coronavirus crisis - by running food and medicine errands.

Players and staff are offering to provide the vital and free service to those quarantined at home -  elderly people, those with certain illnesses and anyone with the virus and self-isolating.

They are also offering to help those home-bound in a range of of other ways, including walking their dogs.

The idea for the gesture came from a committee member after other clubs such as Melrose stepped up to the plate in a similar way.

The club say it is their way of repaying the support the local community has given them in the past.

President Allan Wilson said: "We are a community club and players and committee members have accepted their responsibility to our community. Anyone who needs help will get it without charge for the service.

"We will continue to offer this service as long as it is needed.”

Anyone needing help or friends or family are asked to contact the club via their Facebook page here, leaving a phone number or email address so that arrangements can be made.
