Coronavirus Scotland: Ayrshire pub and restaurant closes doors due to outbreak

An Irvine pub and restaurant has closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Bosses at the Porthead Tavern and Hamilton's bar and restaurant in High Street today revealed they are suspending trading with immediate effect.

They said the decision was taken 'with a very heavy heart' in a statement posted on their Facebook page.

It says: "Following government recommendations and relevant information we feel this is the best decision to protect the health and well-being of our staff, families and our very valued customers.

"We will suspend trading until we see fit that normal operations can resume safely and with little risk to our staff and customers.

"Please feel free to contact us via our facebook pages or email at info@theportlandarms.com where our managers will assist you in anyway.

"We thank all our customers for the continued support and our amazing team of staff and wish everyone the best of health and we will be back stronger than ever.

"Will keep you all updated on our facebook page with updates when we have them.

"Stay safe."
