Coronavirus Scotland: Ayrshire care home residents send touching messages to loved ones after visits are restricted

Residents at a Kilwinning nursing home are sending messages to their loved ones via social media as they shield from the coronavirus outbreak.

Staff at Buckreddan Care Centre have been helping residents put pen to paper to reassure worried relatives they're safe and well after visits were restricted over fears of spreading the virus.

And thanks to the power of Facebook, pictures of pensioners with their hand-written messages are being shared online.

Resident William Whyte is pictured holding a card saying: "Dear Esther, I'm looking good, hope you are too sweet heart. I'm getting taken care of x x x."

Smiling Stan Archibald holds a message saying: "Hi Karen, hope you're keeping safe. I'm doing ok. Hoping it all blows over soon. Love you lots x x."

Peter Penman gives a thumbs up to let his loved ones know everything is okay.

A spokesperson for the home said: ""At present we are following the governments advise and protecting our residents by restricting visiting.

"We are going to try and give daily updates on our Facebook pages to let families know what we are getting up to each day."
