Coronavirus Scotland: Ayrshire beaches lie empty as the public heed warnings to stay at home this Easter

Our beaches lay almost completely deserted this Easter — in stark contrast to last year when the sands were packed during a sweltering heatwave.

It was feared with the good weather people would flock to our shores.

South Ayrshire Council closed many of its car parks to discourage this.

And as Ayrshire Post photographer Euan McCall's pictures (below) show, the majority of the public obeyed those orders.

Would-be revellers appeared to heed warnings to stay at home amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Two solitary walkers were pictured on Troon beach during a sunny Saturday lunchtime.

And our high streets and promenade's remained deserted.

Those scenes were the polar opposite of Easter weekend in 2019, when the country experienced the hottest Easter Sunday since records began.

Last year, we recorded a balmy 23.4°C (74°F), — easily beating the previous high of 20.7°C (69°F) at Aboyne in Aberdeenshire in 2015.

Hundreds of sun worshippers flocked to our beaches last Easter – but this weekend, the sands were eerily empty.

Instead police were seen moving people on who were sitting on the sea wall on Saturday.

Well done everyone!
