Scotland has recorded 956 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours - with 72 in Ayrshire.

The national figure accounts for 14.9 per cent of newly tested individuals.

The Scottish Government say there have been no new deaths of people who have tested positive for coronavirus.

But there are 449 people in Scottish NHS hospitals with confirmed Covid-19 and 33 patients in intensive care.

In Ayrshire and Arran, cases now total 2,295.

There are 25 people in hospitals in the health board region - down one on yesterday.

Five people remain in intensive care as they battle the disease.

The symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a cough
  •
  • a high temperature
  •
  • shortness of breath
  •
  • a loss of taste and smell

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus...

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  •
  •

always wash your hands when you get home or into work

  •
  •

use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

  •
  •

cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  •

put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards

  •

do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
