Coronavirus Scotland: 934 new covid cases including 274 in Greater Glasgow area

934 new positive covid-19 cases have been recorded in Scotland in the past 24 hours, including 274 in the Greater Glasgow area.

Sadly, the Scottish Government also reported another three deaths amid fears of a new strain of the virus across the country.

Yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon announced previous plans for a five-day festive period of relaxed Christmas rules have been cancelled, with a further level 4 lockdown for Glasgow coming into force on Boxing Day.

1,061 people are currently in hospital with covid-19 across Scotland, with 58 in ICU.

    The Scottish Government confirmed:

    • 934* new cases of COVID-19 reported
    • 3 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends)
    • 58 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
    • 1,061 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
    • 20,923* new tests for COVID-19 that reported results – 5.1% of these were positive

*Testing figures may have been affected due to issues with data transfer from NHS Grampian and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde labs over the weekend. Additionally, it appears that the increased number of new cases today (when compared with 572 reported yesterday) may be due to a catch up of a backlog of data.
