Coronavirus Scotland: 895 new cases but hopeful signs emerge in hospitals

Ayrshire has recorded another welcome drop in Covid cases and patients.

Figures for the last 24 hours show a further 69 people have tested positive for the disease – down seven on the previous day.

The number of people battling the virus in the region's hospitals has fallen from 209 to 197 – the first time that figure has been below 200 since January 12.

Patient numbers in Ayrshire intensive care units have dropped from 14 to 12.

Sadly, however, a further two deaths were confirmed within the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board region.

Nationally, 48 new deaths and 895 new cases have been reported.

There are 1,729 people with Covid in Scottish hospitals; 117 in intensive care.

Scotland's death toll now stands at 6,431.

However, 8347 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to January 31.

A total of 786,427 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 10,332 have received their second dose.
