Coronavirus Scotland: 779 die from virus as confirmed cases reach 7102

779 people have now died from coronavirus in Scotland - an increase of 80 deaths  overnight.

The number of confirmed cases has risen to 7,102 up 354 from Wednesday.

A total of 196 Scots are in intensive care receiving treatment, it has been confirmed.

Of the confirmed positive cases, 1,799 people are in hospital which is an increase of 51.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the new figures at the press conference today.

An announcement is expected to be made on how long the UK will enter a lockdown extension after a COBRA meeting on Thursday.

It comes after the National Records of Scotland figures revealed a quarter of Scottish coronavirus related deaths come from care homes.

Figures showed 237 deaths had been registered which mentioned coronavirus.
