There have been another 1,307 cases of Covid confirmed in Scotland as the nation's virus death toll endured another substantial rise today.
Figures have been published by the Scottish Government this afternoon as part of its national COVID-19 daily briefing.
A further 76 patients, including six from the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board region, have died after contracting Covid which means 5,704 people have tragically passed away since March.
However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 7,448 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, January 17 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate. Across the UK, the figure was 95,981 as of last night.
The number of positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran increased by 108 to 12,722.
There are 13 people, within the health board's region, in intensive care with confirmed COVID-19 which is down two from yesterday.
In addition, the number of people in hospital with confirmed coronavirus at midnight was 229 which is a reduction of six from yesterday.
In terms of the rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, North Ayrshire stood at 249.4 as of Friday, January 22. In East Ayrshire, it was 265.6 while it was 204.2 in South Ayrshire.
A total of 171,006 positive tests have been recorded since the end of February from 1.526 million tests carried out.
