Coronavirus Scotland: 740 new cases reported as country enters Level Four restrictions

The Scottish Government has reported that coronavirus figures in Scotland have increased by 740 new positive cases in the past 24 hours.

The new data means a total of 1,889 new cases have been confirmed in Scotland since three-household 'bubbles' were allowed to meet for 24 hours on Christmas Day.

The positive tests reported today - Sunday 27 December - represent 12.3% of the 6,793 people across the country who were newly tested for the virus.

No updates on the number of deaths and on those in hospital - including ICU figures - have been released due to the Christmas period, with an update due on Tuesday next week (December 29).

Mainland Scotland was placed under Level 4 restrictions for at three weeks yesterday in an attempt to curb the spread of the new variant of coronavirus following relaxed restrictions over Christmas Day.

For the next three weeks all non-essential businesses and shops will remain closed, with bars and restaurants only allowed to operate a takeaway service.
