Coronavirus Scotland: 49 new cases confirmed and no new deaths as local clusters grow

The First Minister has reported that there has been a further 49 cases of coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

This represents one per cent of people who were tested for the virus on Monday, which now takes the total number of cases in Scotland to 19,407.

There are also currently 254 people in hospital with the virus and three people treated in intensive care.

The numbers were released as Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that no-one in Scotland who has tested positive for coronavirus has died in over a month.

Today the First Minister also highlighted that a selection of clusters have been responsible for the new cases, with 7 new cases in the Grampian area.

There has also been 16 in the Tayside health board, and 12 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Tuesday's figures come as a further to Scottish primary school pupils test positive for the virus as schools continue with their first full week of opening.

The two children, from Perth and Kinross, are now self-isolating at home with mild symptoms. A reported 41 contacts have been tracked and traced in connection with the outbreak.

However, Nicola Sturgeon confirmed today that the clusters concerning school pupils do not appear to be spreading within the schools themselves.

It has also been confirmed that the cluster outbreak in Coupar Angus concerning the 2 Sister factory has so far been responsible for nine cases of the virus, with this number expected to rise in the coming days.
