First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the latest figures during a press conference today.

Addressing the Easter weekend, she urged Scots to continue to follow lockdown protocols.

She said: "I know how hard it is for people to do that, it will seem even harder over this Easter holiday weekend, especially for families with children and indeed for the children themselves and for older people who would normally be spending time with their grandchildren.

"Please stay in touch with family, friends and loved ones in whatever alternative way best works for you.

"Reach out to and look out for people even as you stay physically apart from them, but please do follow the rules and stay at home over Easter."

She added: "This virtual session of FMQs might, in the scheme of things, seem like a relatively minor example of that, but it is a striking example of that."

It comes as Boris Johnson  spent a third night in intensive care in St Thomas' Hospital in London after being admitted on Sunday night.

Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary, confirmed there was no deterioration in the  Tory  leader's condition as of 7am on Thursday.

Mr Johnson has so far been able to avoid being put on a ventilator, the sign of the most serious complications from Covid-19.

Meanwhile Scotland's Chief Medical Officer resigned on Monday after flouting lock down rules.

Dr Catherine Calderwood quit her role after photos emerged of her visiting her holiday home with family in Fife.

The CMO admitted she had visited the holiday home twice in the past two weeks despite Scots being told to stay at home.
