Coronavirus Scotland: 41 more people die from virus as hospital death toll hits 2,094

A total of 2,094 people have now died of coronavirus in Scottish hospitals after testing positive for the killer bug – a rise of 41 on yesterday.

A further 187 Scots have now tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total confirmed cases to 14,447

It has also been confirmed that 59 people are in intensive care.

As of March 5, 3,336 people who tested positive for the virus have been released from hospital.

Police shut down an illegal gathering to protest coronavirus lockdown measures in Glasgow today.

Around 40 demonstrators were in attendance at a planned event in Glasgow Green from 12pm today.

Flyers circulating on social media this week had advertised “unified peaceful mass gatherings” at parks around the  UK  this afternoon.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing small crowds gathering in the Glasgow park from around 12pm, and police officers on the scene to move them on.

Police Scotland said enforcement action would be taken as a last resort.

Campaigners were reported to be chanting "Nicola Sturgeon is a traitor" and "we are not livestock" before being led away by police.

Earlier this week police and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon had warned people not to attend because they would be putting lives at risk amid the health pandemic.
