Four Ayrshire residents have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The tragic deaths - two in North Ayrshire and two in East Ayrshire - were among 39 covid-confirmed fatalities across Scotland.
The sad news was revealed this afternoon by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland.
Ayrshire recorded 90 new cases of the disease with the number of Covid patients in NHS Ayrshire and Arran hospitals up one to 110.
There remains 10 people battling the virus in intensive care.
Nationally, 1,239 people are in hospital and 102 in intensive care. A total of 832 new cases have been reported.
A total of 3,079 people have now died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus.
However, 4,649 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
Symptoms of coronavirus...
The symptoms of coronavirus are:
- a cough
- a high temperature
- shortness of breath
- a loss of taste and smell
But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.
The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.
How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus...
- wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds

always wash your hands when you get home or into work

use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards

try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
