Coronavirus Scotland: 31 new positive cases including eight in Glasgow area

The Scottish Government has announced there have been a total of 31 positive coronavirus cases across the country in the past 24 hours.

The figure is an increase on yesterday's figure, in which 18 cases were recorded and is the highest daily total in Scotland since 35 were reported on June 6.

However, for the 17th day in a row, there have been no covid-19-related deaths, with the death toll standing at 2,491.

Eight of the 31 cases in the past 24 hours have been registered in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.

Nicola Sturgeon has responded to today's figure's by commenting on Twitter: "Another day y’day with no deaths of people who had tested positive for COVID.

"However, 31 new cases reported. All of these being carefully investigated and appropriate action taken.

"But we should take this as a further warning that COVID is still out there. Please follow #FACTS."

The total number of cumulative cases across Scotland now stands at 18,676. In the Glasgow area, this stands at 4,994.
