Coronavirus Scotland: 218 Scots die from virus as positive cases hit record 3,345

218 people have now died from coronavirus in Scotland – after an increase of 46 deaths overnight.

The number of confirmed cases has risen to 3,345 – up 344 from Friday.

A total of 20,798 people in Scotland have been tested.

The latest figures were released this afternoon (Saturday).

Scotland is still on lockdown and Scots are being reminded to follow the new regulations.

Everyone has been advised not to leave their homes unless shopping for essentials, taking exercise once a day, caring for a vulnerable person, traveling to essential work which cannot be done from home or for a medical reason.

Lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Nicola Sturgeon over a week ago.

Police Scotland now have the power to fine anyone breaking the rules by not social distancing.

Sturgeon said the measures were “essential” for public protection.

She added: “Coronovirus this is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that.

"These measures are essential to slow down the spread of this virus.

“They are essential to reduce the peak impact of it."
