Coronavirus Scotland: 18 new cases including three in Glasgow area

The Scottish Government has confirmed 18 new coronavirus cases in the country including three in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.

The national total represents a fall in the number of daily cases, with 30 having been recorded on Friday, the highest number in over eight weeks.

Thankfully, no new coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in Scotland stands at 18,645. The figure stands at 4,986 in terms of cases in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

Meanwhile, Scots have been urged not to visit parts of northern England hit by a spike in coronavirus cases, with Nicola Sturgeon warning there is a "significant risk" this could lead to a rise in infections north of the border.

The First Minister said Scots who are already in the affected areas should be "extra vigilant" when they return home, by minimising contact with anyone outside their own household and avoiding pubs and restaurants for two weeks.
