Coronavirus Scotland: 147 NHS Ayrshire & Arran staff have tested positive for COVID-19

A total of 147 NHS Ayrshire & Arran workers have tested positive for coronavirus.

Figures released by the health board today reveal that 730 tests have been carried out on the vital key workers in less than a month.

And in the 22 days that NHS Ayrshire & Arran have been conducting their own laboratory analysis, 131 tests have also been carried out on health board family members/household contacts.

Today's figures take into account staff tests between March 22 and yesterday, Sunday, April 12.

With 390 cases confirmed in the region yesterday, the news means that NHS Ayrshire & Arran workers account for 38 per cent - more than a third - of COVID-19 cases in the county.

Last week, the Kilmarnock Standard reported that staff tests at the health board – up to Tuesday, March 31 – saw 57 key workers test positive for the bug.

This means that 90 NHS Ayrshire & Arran employees have contracted the virus since the beginning of April.

Crawford McGuffie, NHS Ayrshire & Arran's medical director, said: "Since we began our in-house laboratory analysis on March 22, 2020, we have carried out 730 tests for coronavirus (COVID-19) on members of our staff.

"In addition to this, 131 tests have been carried out on family members/ household contacts of members of staff.

"147 staff members have tested positive for coronavirus."
