The number of coronavirus cases in Glasgow has jumped by 14 overnight.
4,940 people have tested positive for the virus in the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area, compared to 4,926 people yesterday, according to figures released this afternoon by the Scottish Government.
The sharp rise in the amount of cases follows much smaller overnight increases of five, three, four, two, even, eight and seven cases in the past seven days, and represents the highest overnight increase in Covid-19 positive tests since May 28, when the number of confirmed cases was reported as 3,934 - and 18 figure increase on the previous day's figure of 3,916.
NHS Lanarkshire, where the outbreak at the Sitel call centre is centred, saw an overnight rise of just one case, with 2,770 people there now having tested positive, compared to 2,769 yesterday.
This represents a marked decline from the 14 new positive cases registered as having occurred within the previous 24 hours on Tuesday (July 21).
The 14 new cases in the Glasgow area form part of the 20 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours in Scotland as a whole.
As of midnight last night, two people were in intensive care with confirmed Covid-19, with 278 people in Scottish hospitals with the virus.
No new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.
