Coronavirus scare at Ayr United as player suffers symptoms and Somerset Park placed on lockdown

Ayr United's Somerset Park stadium has been placed on lockdown tonight after a player showed symptoms of coronavirus.

The club, currently sitting fourth in the Scottish Championship, have moved to isolate players and staff following the scare.

Chairman, Lachlan Cameron, told the Ayrshire Post the club was taking "the necessary steps" in light of the news.

Staff have been ordered to stay away from the stadium this week after one of the players reported suffering symptoms.

A club statement read: "We can confirm that earlier today one of our first team squad reported that he had various symptoms, similar to those of Covid 19.

"Following UK Government guidelines and advice our player was instructed to self isolate, which he is now doing.

"This measure is entirely precautionary and does not affect anyone else at Ayr United.

"Our focus now is on ensuring our player makes a swift return to good health.

"Following the most recent statement from the SPFL board we will respond later this evening."
