Coronavirus: Sainsbury's in Prestwick join Asda and Iceland in introducing special shopping hour for elderly and vulnerable

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is the latest to close off a special window of shopping for the elderly and vulnerable.

Their Prestwick store has reserved a slot between 8am-9am tomorrow (Thursday) for vital grocery shopping.

It comes as panic buying amid the coronavirus crisis leaves shelves across the country empty.

Asda and Iceland are among those to already implement special openings for at-risk groups to do their shopping.

A surge on the shelves has left many everyday items such a loo roll, soap and loaves of bread in short supply.

But bosses at Sainsbury's hope their latest intervention will allow shoppers a chance to grab their essentials.

There will be a limit of three products per customer and two for high priority goods.
