Coronavirus: Ryan Reynolds shares his own public service announcement for Canada

Ryan Reynolds has shared his own coronavirus public service announcement, in response to a social media chain launched by Justin Trudeau.

The actor, a Vancouver native, was tagged on Twitter by the prime minister.

Trudeau, who has been quarantined after his wife tested positive for Covid-19, shared a video message on Monday urging others to stay home and “step up” to limit the spread of the virus, “keep vulnerable people safe” and “protect the healthcare workers who are working so hard to keep us all safe”.

The prime minister asked Reynolds and Canadian singer Michael Bublé to spread the word, which they have both done.

Reynolds, with his trademark sense of humour, began his address as such: “I think in times of crisis, we all know it’s the celebrities that we count on most.

“They’re the ones who are going to get us through this – right after healthcare workers, of course. First responders, people who work in essential services, ping pong players, mannequins – they’re great. Childhood imaginary friends? Sure! Like, 400 other types of people.”

His tone then got more serious as he added: “Look, stay at home. Practice social distancing. Wash your hands. We are going to get through this thing together.”

Bublé retweeted Trudeau’s video, adding: ”I know how lucky I am to have the ability to stay home and that it’s not as simple for everyone, but together we can #PlankTheCurve.

“Please, if you can, if at all possible, stay home. It will save lives.”
