Coronavirus - Rutherglen primary school pupils able to resume classes after negative test for staff member

Two classes at a Rutherglen primary school have been able to stop self-isolating and return to school after further coronavirus tests for a staff member came back negative.

Parents at St Columbkille's Primary were told a teacher at the school had an "inconclusive" test earlier this week.

However a second test of the staff member has now come back negative, meaning pupils can resume classes.

The news came as several Cambuslang schools saw staff members test positive for the virus with St Cadoc's, Newton Farm and Cairns all affected.

However no pupils at those schools have been required to self isolate as the staff members affected were not directly dealing with the children.

Dr Femi Oshin, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health, said:   “A number of St Columbkille’s Primary School pupils and a staff member were asked to self-isolate as a precautionary measure whilst further testing was undertaken.

“Following a negative Covid-19 test result and risk assessment of the situation by NHS Lanarkshire’s public health team, we are lifting restrictions on those previously asked to isolate and they are therefore able to return to school, assuming they are asymptomatic.”

“The risk to the wider school community is low and the school will remain open as normal.”
