Coronavirus: Rhondda Cynon Taf in Wales to go into local lockdown

An area of Wales just over an hour from Bristol is going into local lockdown.

Restrictions will be introduced in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) in south Wales from 6pm on Thursday (September 17).

The Welsh Government has announced the move following an increase of coronavirus cases.

This represents the second area in Wales to be put under such restrictions - after the move was made in Caerphilly last week.

People will not be able to enter or leave the area without a reasonable excuse, such as travel for work or education.

All licensed premises will have to shut at 11pm every day, once the lockdown comes into effect, the BBC reports.

RCT council tweeted: "The Welsh Government has announced that further restrictions will come into force in Rhondda Cynon Taf tomorrow from 6pm in response to the continued rise in Coronavirus cases. More details to follow."
