Coronavirus restrictions level for every area in Scotland from this Saturday

Nicola Sturgeon has announced the level of coronavirus restrictions for each local authority area in Scotland from this weekend.

At midnight on Friday going into Saturday, a number of areas will see restrictions eased to level one or zero while others will stay in level two for a longer period of time.

It was good news for the people and businesses of Glasgow, as the city gears up to join the majority of the country in level two restrictions.

Scotland’s largest city has been the only part of the country stuck in level three lockdown for just over two weeks.

Glasgow will finally move down to level two from Saturday (PA)

Testing for Covid has been ramped up in the city, while the vaccination programme has been accelerated in recent days in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.

The move down to level two means that Glaswegians will be able to see their loved ones inside homes for the first time in almost nine months.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that 19 local authority areas will be able to enjoy more freedoms from Saturday.

The First Minister told MSPs at Holyrood that she was confident that the country could move to a less restrictive way of dealing with coronavirus - but warned infection rates could not be allowed to outpace vaccinations.

Nicola Sturgeon made the announcement at Holyrood earlier today (PA)

Sturgeon said: “Taking a cautious approach now - while more people get fully vaccinated - gives us the best chance of staying on the right track overall.”
