Coronavirus: Rationing begins as shop limits how much hand sanitiser customers can buy

A Kilmarnock shop has started rationing customers due to a high demand for certain products.

Hand sanitiser and hand wash has been limited to two per customer at the Home Bargains store in Kilmarnock's Burns Mall.

Even with the limit in place, shelves for the in demand products were almost empty earlier today.

Many shoppers have been panic-buying the items amid fears the coronavirus could take hold in the area.

Yesterday, a petrol station in the town was selling hand sanitiser for £20.

In recent days every single shop in the town centre has sold out of hand-sanitiser amid fears surrounding the coronavirus.

Boots, Savers, Semi-Chem, Home Bargains and Poundland in Kilmarnock had all sold out of hand sanitiser on Friday with many shops forced to place signs in the window saying they had none left.

Hand wash was completely sold out in Asda, Kilmarnock on Sunday evening.

One case of coronavirus has been detected in Ayrshire, the Scottish Government have confirmed.

A Kilmarnock man was tested for the deadly disease after returning home from south-east Asia recently.

Medics have since given the man the all clear.
