Coronavirus infection rates have risen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, the latest data has now revealed.
And in the week ending December 30, more than 55,000 people tested positive in one week as rates across Greater Manchester remain higher than the national average.
This is an increase of 14,968 cases on the previous week - a rise of 37 per cent.
Wigan now has the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, replacing Stockport, according to the UK Health Security Agency data.
The borough recorded a rate of 2303.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending December 30.
The lowest infection rate is in Bolton, where the rate is 1706.9 cases per 100,000 people.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 1967.0 cases per 100,000 population.
The infection rate in the region is higher than the national average, which is 1562.2 cases per 100,000 people.
A total of 55,778 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on December 30.
The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 14,968 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 37 per cent in the last week..
The infection rate is higher than the national average in all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on December 26, a total of 500 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 182 more than the week before, a rise of 57%.
On Tuesday December 28, there were 39 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is six fewer than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending December 30, a total of 42 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 5 fewer than the week before.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Tameside
Tameside recorded 4611 coronavirus cases, which is 1409 more than in the previous seven days.
The latest infection rate in Tameside is 2030.2 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 44 per cent week-on-week.
Manchester
In Manchester, the number of cases is up by five per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 1804.6 cases per 100,000 population.
There were 10029 positive Covid-19 tests in Manchester in the week ending December 30, which was 461 more than the previous 7 days.
Rochdale
Rochdale saw a total of 4173 cases in the week ending December 30, which is 1720 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 70 per cent.
In Rochdale, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 1865.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Bolton
Bolton, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 4920 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 30, which is 1794 more than the previous 7 days.
The coronavirus infection rate in Bolton is now 1706.9 cases per 100,000 people and is up by 57 per cent week-on-week.
Wigan
In Wigan, there were 7618 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 30, which is 3611 more than the previous 7 days.
Wigan has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Wigan is up slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is up by 90 per cent.
Salford
There were 5681 positive tests over the last week in Salford, which is 1153 more than in the previous week.
The week-on-week trend in Salford is up by 25 per cent and the latest infection rate is 2162.6 cases per 100,000 people.
Bury
Bury is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 1772.3 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 3380 cases recorded in Bury, which is 762 more than the previous week - a rise of 29 per cent.
Stockport
In Stockport, the latest infection rate is 2132.2 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 34 per cent.
A total of 6273 people tested positive for Covid in Stockport over the seven days ending on December 30, which is 1600 more than the week before.
Trafford
The trend is up in Trafford, where there were 4730 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 30, which is 735 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 18 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Trafford is 1990.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is higher than the national average.
Oldham
There was a rise of 65 per cent in cases in Oldham over the week ending December 30, and the infection rate is now 1836.1 cases per 100,000 population.
Oldham recorded 4363 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 1723 more than the previous week.
