Coronavirus R rate rises again in Nottinghamshire as England's remains stable

Nottinghamshire's R rate has risen again despite England's number stabilising.

The R rate represents the average number of people each Covid-19 positive person goes on to infect, and when it is above one an outbreak can then go on to rise exponentially.

Any number below one means the epidemic is shrinking.

In Nottinghamshire, the county council's analysts have estimated the number to be around 1.1 to 1.6 as of Monday, June 28, meaning on average every 10 people infected with the virus will go on to pass it to between 11 and 16 other people.

England's rate has stayed at around 1.2 to 1.4 for the past two weeks, according to the latest Government data, but Nottinghamshire's number has risen from 1.1 to 1.5.

Public health officials recently revealed the city and county, in line with the country, is now in the early stages of a third wave.

This is evidenced further by a graph which serves as a visual representation of the rise in coronavirus case numbers recently, with infection rates the highest since March.
