Coronavirus: Queen to use FaceTime and Skype to keep in touch with family

The Queen is staying in touch with her family using video calls because of the coronavirus crisis, according to reports.

The 93-year-old monarch will use apps including FaceTime and Skype to stay in touch with loved ones, aides told The Telegraph.

She and the Duke of Edinburgh are social distancing at Windsor Castle as the UK grapples with the deadly disease.

It comes after a member of staff at Buckingham Palace tested positive for Covid-19.

Officials say 240 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19, and Prime Minster Boris Johnson urged Brits to avoid seeing their mums on Mother's Day.

Buckingham Palace is reportedly working with the government on efforts to provide "calm reassurance" to the nation.

Coronavirus worldwide deaths exceed 11,000

The Queen is said to be set to deliver a televised address in an effort to “lift the nation’s morale”.

One of the Queen's employees at Buckingham Palace tested positive for coronavirus while she was still in residence there, it is reported.

The aide reportedly fell ill and tested positive last week, and Royal Household staff who had contact with the person have been ordered to self-isolate.

It is said the worker was diagnosed with potentially deadly Covid-19 before the 93-year-old monarch moved to Windsor Castle.

The Queen, who has avoided shaking hands during audiences and a recent investiture, has since moved to Windsor Castle earlier than usual for Easter.

Brits have been urged to stay away from their mums in order to avoid the spread of the virus.

The Prime Minister advised people to keep away from elderly parents on Mother's Day today.

Boris Johnson said: "The single best present that we can give ... is to spare them the risk of catching a very dangerous disease."
