Coronavirus panic sees Scottish streets and trains deserted in shock photos

Scottish streets and trains have been left deserted this week as thousands of people stay at home to stop the spread of coronavrius.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has urged citizens to increase their efforts to "socially distance" and avoid places with large groups of people, like cinemas, pubs and clubs.

Shocking photos on social media show Scottish city streets usually bustling with commuters and tourists left empty as many opt to self-isolate.

One image shows Edinburgh's Royal Mile vacant on Friday at lunchtime, which is normally packed with locals and sightseers.

Another photo shows Glasgow Central station empty on Monday morning during peak rush hour.

One commuter snapped a photo of a platform in Livingstone left empty, while usually packed commuter trains are left deserted as workers stay at home amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
