Coronavirus pandemic unemployment payment scheme to be extended until April 2021 but rates to change for all recipients

The Pandemic Unemployment Payment is set to be extended until next year, according to reports.

The payment which was brought in at the start of the pandemic will now run until April with this latest extenstion.

The rate of payment will however be gradually reduced to €203 based on a person's pre-pandemic earnings.

From September 17 people will no longer be able to sign up for the payment.

The top payment rate will drop to €300 from the original €350.

This applies to to everyone who earned over €300 per week before lockdown hit. 

People who were on between €200 and €300 before the virus arrived will go from €350 to a rate of €250 - RTE News reports.
