Coronavirus outbreaks confirmed at Queen Margaret and Prestwick Academy

Coronavirus cases have today (Friday) been confirmed at Queen Margaret and Prestwick Academy.

Pupils are in isolation after positive cases of Covid-19 were linked to the two secondary schools.

Seven schools in the South Ayrshire council region have now confirmed they have students in self-isolation.

Ayr, Kyle and Belmont Acadamies as well as Holmston and Coylton Primaries have already confirmed Covid outbreaks.

Joy Tomlinson, Joint Director of Public Health said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is conducting contact tracing within Prestwick Academy and Queen Margaret Academy in the South Ayrshire council area.

"A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time."
