Coronavirus outbreaks at almost half of Bristol's care homes as deaths rise

Coronavirus outbreaks have been confirmed in 41 per cent of Bristol's care homes, the latest data shows today (Monday).

This figure is up from 28 per cent last week, as council chiefs said 'guidance is under regular review to ensure the safety' of everyone.

Figure also show outbreaks - two or more laboratory-confirmed cases - at 31 workplaces across the city. This compares to 19 confirmed last week.

The number of Covid patients in Bristol hospitals has also risen to 436 - the highest since the pandemic first hit. This total is a small jump from last week's 430.

Three further Covid patients died in Bristol today, and 172 new cases were reported.

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: "Cases are still high across all areas of the city. Areas of south Bristol continue to see high case rates and public health teams have activated local outbreak plans to stem the spread of infection and support residents.

"We are also activating plans in other areas in north and east Bristol where rates are high or rising due to community transmission."

Across Bristol's schools, 18 per cent had at least one student or staff member with COVID-19.

Between December 8 to January 17, a total of 79,743 vaccines have been administered across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Our city's rate per 100,000 people has now fallen to 365.1 - this compares to 452 confirmed last week.

England's rate stands at 420.7, while the South West's has dropped to 281.5.
