Coronavirus outbreak: Secondary school only open to two year groups

A North Somerset secondary school has been forced to close five year groups following multiple coronavirus cases.

Pupils in Y7, Y8, Y9, Y12 and Y13 are all isolating at St Katherine's School, on Pill Road, Ham Green, after several people contracted the virus.

Only students in Y10 and Y11 are allowed into classrooms.

In a letter to parents, a spokesperson said: "This afternoon we have been informed of a third positive confirmed case of Covid.19 within our Y7 bubble.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and we are working closely with Public Health England.

"The school remains open to Y10 and Y11 and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."

Y12 and Y13 students will be returning to the school on Monday, November 23.

While children in Y9 will be learning from home until Friday, November 27. Students in Y8 will be returning the day before, on November 26.

And Y7 will be working from home until December 1.

Thousands of pupils are isolating across the city as more than 50 schools have been hit by Covid.

Staff shortages has also resulted in some schools partially closing.
