Coronavirus outbreak confirmed at THIRD Ayrshire supermarket

An outbreak of coronavirus has been confirmed at Morrisons Ayr.

The supermarket giant is at the centre of a track and trace investigation after positive Covid-19 tests were confirmed.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran confirmed the outbreak to the Ayrshire Post , but they would not say how many had tested positive.

It is the third supermarket to confirm an outbreak in the town in less than a week.

All three of Ayr's biggest stores - Morrisons, Tesco Extra and Asda Ayr - have now confirmed coronavirus cases. It's believed more than 40 staff are self-isolating between the three shops.

The health board insist the risk to the public is "low."

Lynne McNiven, Director of Public Health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Health Protection Team is completing contact tracing associated with a retailer in South Ayrshire. 

"Close contacts identified through this process are being advised to self-isolate for 14 days by the Test and Protect Team. The risk to the public is low.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"The symptoms of Coronavirus (Covid-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."
