Coronavirus outbreak confirmed at FIFTH Ayr school

A fifth Ayr school has confirmed a coronavirus outbreak in less than a week.

Holmston Primary in the town is the latest to confirm Covid cases just days after kids returned from the October break.

The school is at the centre of a track and trace investigation and a full class have now been ordered to self-isolate.

Following yesterday's news that a full class at Coylton Primary were off self-isolating a source told the Ayrshire Post : "A whole primary are in isolation at Holmston as well. Track and trace have been involved since Thursday."

The Holmston and Coylton outbreaks follow confirmed coronavirus cases at Belmont, Kyle and Ayr Academies.

All of the cases were confirmed just days after the children returned from the October holidays.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran confirmed the Holmston Primary outbreak today (Wednesday) and they insist every measure is being taken to "protect pupils and staff".

Joy Tomlinson, Joint Director of Public Health, said: "The Test & Protect team is conducting contact tracing within Holmston Primary School.

"A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time."
