Coronavirus outbreak at Whyte and MacKay in Grangemouth

A number of staff have tested positive for coronavirus at Whyte and Mackay in Grangemouth.

It is understood at least five cases are being investigated by public health teams.

Those affected, alongside close contacts, have been sent home to self-isolate.

The alcohol producer employs 150 people at the site.

In a statement, NHS Forth Valley said: "NHS Forth Valley’s Test and Protect team is carrying out contact tracing after a small number of staff working at Whyte and Mackay in Grangemouth tested positive for coronavirus."

"All appropriate action is being taken and our Public Health Team are working closely with the local management team to provide advice and support."

A spokesperson for Whyte and MacKay told Falkirk Live: "We can confirm that a small number of colleagues who work at our site on South Lumley Street, Grangemouth have tested positive for COVID-19.

"The site operates COVID-secure protocols in strict adherence to government guidelines. As a precautionary measure we have taken the decision to stop operations today whilst we undertake a deep clean."

We have notified the relevant authorities accordingly.’
