Coronavirus outbreak at Tesco Wishaw after number of staff test positive for virus

A number of staff at Tesco Extra in Wishaw have tested positive for coronavirus.

Bosses at the store on Belhaven Road would not confirm how many employees had been struck down with the virus, describing it only as a 'small number'.

They said the affected group are now self isolating after the outbreak.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said: “A small number of colleagues at our Wishaw store have tested positive for Covid-19 and are self-isolating.

"Their close contacts have been informed.

"The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are following all Scottish Government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.

"We have extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular deep cleaning.”

Tesco say they have a number of have a range of social distancing measures in stores to keep people safe, including limiting the number of people in stores at any one time and clear signage at the entrance to stores asking customers to wear face masks.
