A coronavirus outbreak has been identified at a council building in Motherwell.
It is understood eight staff members at North Lanarkshire Council's Dalziel building have tested positive for the virus over the last week.
An entire floor within the building has been closed for a deep clean whilst investigations are being carried out.
Council bosses say the cause of the Covid-19 cases has yet to be identified, however contact tracing is now underway.
Those who have been in close contact with the infected staff have been told to self isolate.
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said, “A public health assessment led by NHS Lanarkshire into a small number of cases amongst staff who have worked at the Dalziel Building in Motherwell is being carried out.
“The cause of these cases has yet to be established however as a precaution the council has closed one floor of the building and a deep clean will be carried out.”
Dr Femi Oshin, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health medicine, said: “NHS Lanarkshire is currently investigating a small number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on one floor of North Lanarkshire Council’s Dalziel Building in Motherwell.
“NHS Lanarkshire’s Test and Protect team is working closely with North Lanarkshire Council with regards to the cases and close contacts have been contacted.
"Public health advice has been given to these individuals and they are being told to self-isolate.
“NHS Lanarkshire will review the situation daily and everyone should continue to follow the Scottish Government guidance on coronavirus.
“To respect and maintain confidentiality, no further details will be released at this time.”
