A nurse working on a dedicated coronavirus ward had valuables and her work uniform stolen in an overnight break in.
Durham Constabularly are searching for witnesses to the incident, which happened between midnight and 5.30am on Saturday, March 28 on Neville Road in Darlington.
The burglar is believed to have broken into both the nurse's car and home, before taking items including a white Cannondale road bike, clothing, a laptop, electric guitar, and motorbike leathers and helmet.
Alongside the valuables the nurse, who works at Darlington Memorial Hospital, discovered a plastic biobag containing her uniform had also been taken. This had not been cleaned since finishing her shift last night and could pose an infection risk.
Detective Constable Stewart Walker, of Darlington CID, said: “Not only do I wish to appeal to the public for any information that may lead to the return of the stolen property, I’d also like to make a personal appeal to whoever committed this offence.
“Any person who comes into contact with the nurse’s uniform is potentially at risk of contracting the coronavirus, and for the safety of both the offender themselves and the wider community, I would strongly urge them to come forward immediately.”
Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 152 of March 28.
