Coronavirus Northern Ireland: West Belfast school closed for deep clean after pupil's positive test

A pupil who attends a Falls Rd secondary school has tested positive for Coronavirus.

The family of the female pupil alerted the school which is now closed for a deep clean and will be reopened for staff-only days later in the week.

The school had been closed to pupils today as a 'staff day' and was already due to be closed for St Patrick's Day tomorrow.

However pupils have been asked to remain away until next Monday at the earliest.

Principal of the leading Belfast school, St Dominic's Grammar, Carol McCann, made the announcement through the school's app and on social media.

She said: "We have been informed that one of our pupils has been confirmed as having Covid-19.

"A plan is in place to have the school deep cleaned.

"We have made the decision to have staff days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Pupils do not attend.

"We are waiting further guidance from The Department of Education, the Education Authority and Examination Boards."

Mrs McCann urged families to watch out for further updates on Facebook, Twitter and the school's app and website.

She added: "Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."
