Coronavirus Northern Ireland - Plans for international arrivals tests to be discussed

Ministers are set to meet today to discuss plans to get international travellers arriving in Northern Ireland to produce a negative Covid-19 test before flying.

Proposals from the Health Minister Robin Swann will be debated by the Executive today, the BBC reports.

It is understood the plans are similar to the move already in place in the Republic since Saturday which would see all international arrivals to Northern Ireland produce a negative Covid-19 test before departure.

Minister Swann said last week that the proposal had been agreed "in principle" but the finer details needed to be worked out.

At the moment, the regulations mean those arriving in Northern Ireland from a country outside the Common Travel Area must self-isolate for 10 days.

You must also provide your journey details before you travel by completing a UK passenger locator form.

If you arrive in Northern Ireland having travelled through the Republic of Ireland after having been outside of the CTA you must make sure you complete a UK Passenger Locator Form.

Negative tests prior to arrival are already a requirement in the Republic of Ireland for passengers travelling from Great Britain and South Africa.

The meeting of the Executive on Thursday will also see ministers get the latest update on the coronavirus situation in Northern Ireland.
