Coronavirus Northern Ireland: Full breakdown of Wednesday's Covid-19 figures

There has been five further coronavirus deaths reported by the Department of Health in the past 24 hours.

Figures released today, Wednesday October 21, show 1,039 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in this reporting period.

This increase brings the number of positive cases of the virus in Northern Ireland to 29,992.

A total of 6,791 people have been given positive results for coronavirus in the last seven days.

Figures also indicate 4,889 tests have been carried out in the last 24 hours.

The Department's daily dashboard update shows 629 people have passed away since the start of the pandemic here after testing positive for the virus.

There are currently 289 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospitals across Northern Ireland and 32 in intensive care.

A total of 2,115 patients have been discharged from hospital care after being admitted with the virus.

The Belfast area has seen the largest increase in positive infections in the past seven days, with 1,740 people contracting the virus.

Belfast has also had the highest number of positive cases since the outbreak began with 7,531.

Derry City and Strabane has seen 4,566 positive test results, followed Newry Mourne and Down with 2,777.

A total of 455,957 tests have been carried out with 29,992 people testing positive since the outbreak began.
